COASTAL COTTAGE

We were pleased to be able to work alongside Steve Davis Construction on this new cottage build featured along the shoreline of Georgian Bay. 

​This sweet cottage nestled in the trees with breathtaking views of the water, was designed to let in the light and admire the views, as well as host and entertain family and friends. With style, budget and practicality in mind, this home still boasts some impressive design features.

​Beginning with selecting the colour palette of the exterior finishes, we worked our way inside continuing the same colour scheme. The area we focused on most was the great room, specifically the kitchen. We wanted to keep this area open and breezy, so we went with a classic white cabinet but introduced a pop of colour on the shiplap island. 

We incorporated many smart features into this kitchen layout. By eliminating an upper cabinet over the range in favour of an open shelf, we were able to add character with a space to display décor as well as accommodate a sleek vent hood. Open shelving beside the window creates a neat coffee bar away from the service area of the kitchen. Easy access storage was created in the island by swapping out a drawer system for lower open shelving. A white quartz countertop and glass mosaic backsplash complete this space with ease. 

By reusing and refinishing many existing pieces of furniture, we were able to blend them into the concept with a fresh coat of paint and new hardware. We opted to co-ordinate new sofas into the home by finding the most beautiful fabric in a similar colour to the island and adding pillows that add pizazz to the living space. 

Another feature in the living area is a beautifully designed space saving fireplace. Featuring a custom millwork enclosure this focal point adds to the ambiance of a cool summer evening on the lake. Here we framed the fireplace in the same backsplash tile featured in the kitchen but opted for a more size appropriate mosaic style.

This main floor is complete with a soft wash of white on the walls and shiplap, which is elevated by the many unique light fixtures featured throughout.
