This Markdale project was all about creating space, room to move and to give this home a relaxed and rustic vibe by using existing elements from the original home such as the fieldstone fireplace, and cherished pieces of furniture.
Once a home with several individual small rooms, consisting of two living spaces, a dining room and a tight kitchen, we needed to assist our clients in tearing the walls down to open up this space so that they can all function as one. These clients wanted a big kitchen with lot of storage and plenty of counterspace. We delivered that, and also included their existing kitchen table, by request, by nesting it into the L shaped Island. This space also includes their existing pub height table for multiple seating options and entertainment needs.
We incorporated wood beams and wrapped the structural post in ash and stained it to match the kitchen island and base cabinets. This helped us to set the stage for the amazing ceiling detail over the island, also stained ash.
We inserted a faux white washed barn board into each of these areas to add texture and define these spaces. We also took the opportunity to add some amazing light fixtures and a installed an all-new grid of recessed pot lights.
We wanted to keep all of the finishes functional so we opted for Luxury Vinyl Plank flooring throughout the space, with a tile inlay at the entry. This will deal with lots of heavy foot traffic, 2 large dogs and the changing seasons.
We went for grainy wood base cabinets with lots of texture and movement so that they can stand up to heavy use, wear and tear and even add to the charm of the home over time.
Our clients prioritized comfort and went with two oversized recliners that swivel. This will allow the occupier to choose to enjoy the fireplace, watch their favorite show or join the party in the kitchen.
This updated space definitely accomplishes all of our clients goals, and we could not be happier for them and their new found space.
We had never before utilized the services of an interior designer. We knew we needed help with this project and we were referred to Blended Interiors by a neighbour architect. The ladies were amazing in their communication, listening to our needs, and guiding us through the whole process. The renditions we were presented with blew us away and every little detail was covered! Covid and shut down never stopped our work as together, by zoom and finally in person again, we put together the dream space we needed and wanted!
Our 1970’s bungalow with walls every where you turned, became an open, sunshine filled, glorious space for us! Every piece is “us” ; from the wood beams, kitchen cupboards, lighting, wall colours! I spin around and cannot believe this is ours! The renditions came alive and we are so extremely happy with the results that Blended Interiors created for us. A dream we watched become a reality!
Thank you Courtney, Leah and Donna. You are always welcome in our home and I cannot wait for the next project to be identified so you can help us bring it to life!
If you’ve never worked with a designer - do it! For the small investment it is so worth the effort - these ladies know their stuff! Trust them, honestly, even my husband agrees that this project is a success because of their guidance! Thanks BI!
